Summary

This study evaluated the utility of meat juice (MJ) from market-purchased pork in Japan and Vietnam for serological surveillance of mosquito-borne viruses, specifically Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) and Getah virus (GETV). We confirmed the presence of specific antibodies against JEV and GETV in the MJ samples using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and virus neutralization test. The lack of correlation between JEV- and GETV-specific optical density values suggests independent infections in Vietnamese pig populations. The high seroprevalence observed in Vietnam highlights the practical utility of MJ as a viable alternative to serum for effective large-scale arboviral surveillance in field settings. These findings underscore the need for comprehensive mosquito-borne virus control in swine health management.
