Summary

There are numerous IP fast reroute (IPFRR) methods that can be used to quickly recover from the failure of a single network component, and there are a few IPFRR methods that focus on multiple link failures. However, there have been no IPFRR methods to date for dealing with two node failures and simultaneous node and link failures. In this paper, we propose such a method. The proposed method combines two existing IPFRR methods that can deal with a single network component failure. Numerical examples show that we can successfully obtain node-independent spanning trees required for rerouting in the event of double network component failures for many topologies when the number of nodes in a given topology is between 20 and 200. We also demonstrate that the increased number of hops in double network component failures ranges from two to four for the Waxman topology model and from two to three for the Barabási-Albert topology model.
