Cubane-type cluster [Mo3NiS4(H2O)10]4+ uptakes CO in dil. HCl to give [Mo3NiS4(CO)(H2O)9]4+.  The x-ray structure anal. verified that the Ni atom has a tetrahedral configuration surrounded by 1 CO and 3 S's neglecting 3 Ni-Mo bonds (triclinic, space group P.hivin.1, R = 0.0811).
