[Mo3InS4(PTS)2(H2O)10](PTS)3.13H2O (I) was prepd. from [Mo3S4(H2O)9]4+ (II) and In metal in 4 M p-toluenesulfonic acid (HPTS) soln.  The x-ray anal. of I revealed the existence of a cubane-type core Mo3InS45+ and the coordination of 2 PTS- to In in the cluster.  Crystal data: triclinic, space group P.hivin.1, a 16.807(8), b 23.393(13), c 9.301(3) .ANG., a 91.23(4), b 103.58(4), g 76.95(4)ー, Z = 2, R = 0.0749.  I has 2 absorption peaks in the visible region [lmax, nm(e M-1 cm-1) 552(192), 758(510) in 2 M HPTS], and returns to II on exposure to the air.  The charge of the core Mo3InS4 is 5, and the following formal oxidn. states of metals in I are assigned on the data from XPS spectroscopy: Mo3 (4,3,3); In (3).
