crystal structure nickel tungsten sulfur cluster; ethylene reactivity molybdenum tungsten heterobimetallic cluster; nickel tungsten sulfur aqua cubane cluster
Reaction of a S-bridged incomplete cubane-type W cluster [W3S4(H2O)9]4+ with Ni metal afforded a cubane-type mixed-metal cluster [W3NiS4(H2O)10]4+, whose structure was detd. by the x-ray structure anal. of [{W3NiS4(H2O)9}2](CH3C6H4SO3)8.20H2O. The reactivity difference between [Mo3NiS4(H2O)10]4+ and [W3NiS4(H2O)10]4+ with ethylene can be explained by the difference in the binding energies of Ni (2p3/2) obtained from XPS spectra of the clusters.
