A Data Management and Visualization System towards Online Microscopic Imaging

Internet access to scientific measurement devices, such as high voltage electron microscopes, streamlines e-science workflow. A remote data management and visualization system for online microscopic imaging is presented. The system facilitates scientists to obtain image data, including related metadata, from a remote microscope and then visualize the data in highresolution on a tiled display wall composed of multiple monitors and computers. We discuss and consider the practicality and usefulness of the proposed system through a prototype that uses the NAREGI data grid with an extension we developed for it. We also summarize future issues to be resolved to further develop a practical and useful system for microscopic imaging research. © 2009 by MIPRO.
