Summary

This article discusses the two prominent Japanese film directors, Akira Kurosawa, and Takeshi Kitano. Kurosawa was born in 1910 before World War II, and Kitano was in 1947 after the war. Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (1954) and Kitano's Hana-bi (1989) are analyzed comparatively. The differences between their directions are caused by the social changes that they experienced.
