We report zebra-borne Equine Herpesvirus type 1(EHV-1) epidemic cases in blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra: Ac) in Japan. Unlike EHV-1 infecting horses, EHV-1 infecting non-equid species indicate high pathogenicity and cause neuronal sign and death as found in these cases. Also, we considered EHV-1 infect from nasal epithelium to central nervous system through basal brain. This is the first report describing the pathogenicity in blackbuck.
