Title: Preparation of polynuclear chalcogen-bridged coordination complexes with quinolines
Abstract: The title complexes, useful as phosphors for org. electroluminescent devices (no data), are prepd. by substitution reaction of (A) polynuclear chalcogen-bridged coordination complexes with ligands other than quinolines with (B) quinolines in aq. solns., and extn. of the resulting substituted products with org. solvents or directly recovering when the products are insol. in water. Alternatively, the substitution reaction is carried out in org. solvents. Preferably, the complexes contain Mo and/or W. Thus, aq. p-MeC6H4SO3H soln. of incomplete cubane cluster [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ-S)3(H2O)9](p-MeC6H4SO3)4.(9H2O) was treated with CH2Cl2 soln. of 8-hydroxyquinoline and aq. NaOH soln., and filtered to give 5.2% [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ-S)3(C9H6NO)3(H2O)3](p-MeC6H4SO3).(2H2O), which emitted fluorescence.
