Superconducting Properties of Palladium Hydride Systems Prepared by Low-Temperature Absorption

We studied the superconducting properties of a Pd hydride film with a thickness of 1.5 μm prepared by a low temperature absorption method. The absorption was performed under hydrogen (H2) gas atmosphere with P ~ 0.25 MPa with decreasing the temperature gradually from T = 250 K to 170 K, where the sample resistance was monitored simultaneously. After the hydrogen absorption, the sample was cooled rapidly down to T ~25 K to prevent H desorption. The superconducting transition was observed at TC ∼ 1.7 K, where the H concentration is estimated to be 0.85. Below the superconducting transition, the resistance decreases sharply near TC, whereas at lower temperatures the resistance decreases slowly, resulting in a broadening of the transition. The origin of the broadening is discussed by comparing the results obtained from the resistance measurements with two different H charging temperature of the film.
