Summary

The transfer of column axial force to an eccentric pile was investigated using 3D elastic FEM analysis, with the stiffness of the surface soil layer varied. The results are as follows:
1. The axial force at the pile head decreases as the stiffness of the surface soil layer increases.
2. The rate of decrease in pile-head axial force due to eccentricity is more gradual when the stiffness of the surface soil layer is lower.
3. When the foundation slab is thin, the moment at the pile head decreases slightly as the stiffness of the surface soil layer increases.
