This report describes an evaluation of malfunctions caused by metastable operation(MSO) in a synchronizer composed of a cascade connection of edge trigger D flip-flops. The malfunction is defined as the MS0 which continues more than a period of clock pulse, and mean and variance of time between the MSO are adopted as measures of the evaluation. They are calculated by the use of a malkov chain with respect to behavior of the synchronizer and a simulator for computing the probability that the MSO continues more than the period mentioned above in each flip-flop. |
