The aim of this study is to propose the use of onomatopoeia for teaching expression skills in art education of primary school. Images induced from onomatopoeia can be viewed as a common sense for people. It is thought that the feature of onomatopoeia is useful for the expression skill guidance which emphasizes the sense of the body. What is onomatopoeia useful for teaching expression skills?This study shows a teaching method that makes use of saws, and examine what kind of act the image induced from onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia can convey force and speed of operation.
The teachers present onomatopoeia such as "Garit" and "Shu,shu,shu" to children. Children adjust the power and movement that imagined from onomatopoeia, and they will be able to use saws and other tools appropriately. Teachers give appropriate advice to children by using onomatopoeia on teaching expression skills, and children will be motivated.
