概要

This study compares two rehearsal methods: shadowing and repeating. Participants in the shadowing group and in the repeating group practiced their respective skills. A listening test, a written test of English knowledge, a shadowing test and a repeating test were given to all participants in a pre- / post-treatment design. The study explored how the two practice methods affected the improvement of test scores and also examined the correlations between the test scores. The results showed that the shadowing group improved both shadowing skill and repeating skill, while the repeating group didn't enhance either skill. It was also found that shadowing skill had a weaker correlation with written test scores than repeating skill, both pre- and post-treatment. These results may indicate that shadowing and repeating have cognitive differences in language processing.
