In this paper, we use the case of Takatsuki City to clarify the basic trend of residents’ satisfaction with their area and the actual changes in its determinants over time. We use question items that are continuously included in the Takatsuki Citizen Mail Survey by Takatsuki City and Kansai University. We also discuss prospects for research on people’s satisfaction and subjective evaluation of their surroundings and various services.
In our first analysis, we confirm the basic trends of satisfaction items over an 11-year period, from 2012 to 2022. The wording of the area satisfaction categories has changed since 2017, and its frequency distribution has also changed. However, when the five-level categories of the satisfaction with the area were reorganized into four-level categories and compared, stable mean values were confirmed. Stable differences in the satisfaction were also observed among the areas within the Takatsuki City.
In our second analysis, we analyze the determinants of the satisfaction with the area. The results of the ordered logit model showed that the combination of the significant independent variables changed depending on each survey year, but when the results of the integrated analysis of the 11 years of data were analyzed, a generally consistent trend was confirmed for annual household income, housing, and residential area.
