Summary

This study has clarified the study of elementary school ancient history that guarantees social relevance, based on the results of questionnaires for elementary school students regarding important historical events, analysis of interviews with elementary school teachers and archaeological researchers, and public archaeology results. The results of this study are the following three points.
. The first was the identification of a narrative template behind the children's view of history: “A positive view of Japan as a nation that is protected by law, has achieved prosperous life, economic development, and peace, and is in the circle of international cooperation. The second, the significance of ancient history was redefined from interviews with elementary school teachers and archaeological researchers. The third was to utilize the findings of public archaeology to propose a way of learning ancient history that guarantees academic relevance, social relevance, and personal relevance.
Future tasks are to create a unit plan based on the ancient history learning concept presented in this study, and to clarify the feasibility and results of the unit plan.
